Aldergrove

UPLIFT

Aldergrove. It's a band. From Belfast. Called Aldergrove.

Aldergrove come from Belfast in the North of Ireland.

Frontman Ben draws from personal experience of romantic tragedy and gives us a poignant, poetic and sometimes dark view on the loss of love, the dashing of hopes and the turmoil of 21st century relationships.

The band take you on a journey of uncertain destination, knowing only that they want to 'get away' and that they don't mind if you come with them for the ride.

Check out new original songs such as 'Mercury', 'Prince of Neptune' and 'Late Great Love' to discover a new voice from the north from a band who are charting an alternate course, miles and miles away from the shallow pretence of Pop Idol chart pretenders and pretty boy skate-rock acts.

This is Aldergrove, you've got your ticket so find a window seat, fasten your seatbelts and prepare for take-off...

New Album from Belfast band Aldergrove now recorded...

It sounds like Gary Jules singing Bob Dylan's lyrics with music from a Ryan Adams/Del Amitri/Waterboys jam session.

The guys, Ben, Shane, Colm, Warren and Dessie have been in to the Uplift Entertainment studio with producer Andy Reynolds and they have now completed their first album. This is a classic and timeless piece of work where they have managed to capture real musical magic in the studio.

Sensitive drumming from Dessie is complemented by tight bass work from Warren. This powerful but restrained foundation is the base for the twin guitars of Ben and Colm, who recorded a lot of the songs live with both guitars in the same room, giving a kind of acoustic interplay with the harmonic intermodulations associated with early Simon and Garfunkle, Flying Burrito Brothers or Crosby Stills Nash and Young.

To this is added the fine piano and hammond organ work of the classically trained Shane.

Colm plays telecaster on some tracks, using flavours of slide guitar, blues licks and cool picking to add to the songs. Shane adds saxophone on two tracks and Colm adds harmonica to the song Mercury.

Ben's voice and lyrics complete the picture with poignant heartfelt moments where he tells of lost love and heartache.

This is an album to treasure, to play over and again and to introduce to friends. It is a sound that draws you into its world, giving you a simultaneous dose of wistful sadness with a profound love of our human condition. This album changes everything in a very subtle way.

Oh, and its guaranteed to impress bookish introspective girlfriends...
